Reporting something broken
Four things make a problem fixable:
- Which tool, and the page you were on
- Your browser and roughly which version
- What you did, step by step
- What happened instead of what you expected
Please keep your file
The whole point of the site is that your documents never leave your device, so it would be odd to ask you to email one to us. Describe it instead: the format, roughly how large, how many pages or how long, and where it came from. That is nearly always enough to reproduce the problem here.
Suggesting a tool
Describe the problem rather than the tool. What were you trying to do, what got in the way, and what did you end up doing instead? Anything that would need a server is out of scope, since nothing here uploads files.
When you will hear back
Usually within a few days. This is a small operation rather than a support desk, so there is no promised response time and inventing one would be dishonest. Clear reports get answered fastest.
Answers that save you writing
These four come up more than everything else combined, so here they are in advance.
My file will not open
Browsers only read the formats they can already play or display. MKV, AVI, WMV and HEIC are the usual culprits. Convert to MP4 or JPEG in any desktop application first, or set an iPhone camera to Most Compatible.
It says my PDF is protected
A password protected PDF is genuinely encrypted, so no tool can read it. Remove the password in the application that made it or in your PDF reader, then bring the unprotected copy back.
The page ran out of memory
Everything happens on your own device, so its memory is the ceiling. Try fewer files at once, a lower resolution, or the same job on a laptop rather than a phone. Splitting a very large document in half solves it nearly every time.
Nothing happens when I press the button
Usually an ad blocker or a strict content policy stopping the open source library a tool needs from loading. Allow the page and refresh. If it persists, tell us which blocker you use, since that detail is what makes it fixable.
Or find what you were looking for
If you arrived here looking for a particular tool rather than a conversation, it may be in one of these.
Questions about these tools
A few things worth checking before you write, because these come up most often.
Four things turn a report into something fixable: which tool, which browser and version, what you were doing when it went wrong, and what happened instead. If your browser showed an error, opening the developer console and copying the red text is enormously helpful. Please do not attach the file itself, as explained below.
Please do not. The whole point of this site is that your documents and photographs stay on your own device, and it would be strange to ask you to email them to us instead. Describe the file rather than sending it: the format, roughly how large, how many pages or how long, and where it came from. That is almost always enough to reproduce the problem.
Usually within a few days. This is a small operation rather than a support desk, so there is no promised response time and it would be dishonest to invent one. Clear reports get answered fastest, simply because they need no back and forth.
No, and not because we will not. Nothing you put through the site ever reaches us, so there is no copy anywhere for us to look for. If a tool lost your work, the original file is still wherever you kept it, and that is the only copy that ever existed.
Very possibly, and suggestions genuinely shape what gets built. The most useful ones describe the problem rather than the solution: what you were trying to do, what got in the way, and what you ended up doing instead. Note that anything requiring a server is out of scope, since nothing here uploads files.
You can write about them, though the answer is usually short. Advertising on the pages is how the site is paid for, and that is handled through the usual networks rather than directly. We do not place paid links inside articles or recommend tools in exchange for payment.
