This page explains what XY Convert is, what it is not, and where the limits of our responsibility sit. It is written in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch and ask.

General information only

Everything published on this site, including the tool pages, the articles and the help text inside the tools, is provided for general information and general use. It is written to be accurate and useful, and it is reviewed when things change, but it cannot account for your particular situation.

We make no representation that the information here is complete, current or suitable for any specific purpose. You use it at your own discretion and remain responsible for your own decisions.

This is not professional advice

Some of the tools and articles on this site touch on subjects where professional advice may be needed. Nothing here is a substitute for it.

  • Not legal advice. The career tools produce documents such as experience letters and letterheads. Employment law, company disclosure requirements and document validity all vary by country and by situation. Check what applies where you are, or ask a qualified adviser.
  • Not employment or HR advice. Guidance about resumes, letters and applications reflects general practice, not the rules of any particular employer, recruiter or hiring system.
  • Not financial, tax or business advice. Where invoices, company details or business documents are mentioned, that is context rather than advice.
  • Not technical certification. Explanations of how browsers, formats and files behave are written to be correct and understandable, not to serve as a formal specification.

If a document you create here carries legal or financial weight, have somebody qualified look at it before you rely on it.

The tools are provided as they are

Every tool on this site is offered free of charge and without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that a tool will be available at any given moment, that it will work on every device or browser, or that the result will meet your particular requirement.

Tools run inside your own browser using your device’s memory and processing. That means results can differ between a phone and a laptop, between browsers, and between one version of a browser and the next. Where a tool has a known limit, the page for that tool says so.

Keep your original files

This is the most practical thing on this page, so it is worth reading twice.

Because nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored anywhere but your own device. There is no copy of your work on a server, which means there is nothing for anybody to recover if something goes wrong. A tab that crashes, a browser that runs out of memory, or a file saved over the top of another one cannot be undone by us.

Always keep the original file until you have opened the result and confirmed it is what you wanted. Work on copies. Check the output before you delete anything.

Automatic results need checking

Several tools produce a best effort rather than a certainty, and treating that output as final without reading it is a mistake.

  • Reading text from pictures guesses at characters. Names, numbers, acronyms and anything faint or handwritten are where it goes wrong most often.
  • Transcribing speech produces a first draft. Crosstalk, accents, background noise and technical vocabulary all reduce accuracy.
  • Compression discards detail by design. How much is acceptable is a judgement only you can make, which is why the result is shown before you save it.
  • Document checks such as the resume readiness list are our own guidance. They are not a score from any employer’s software, and no tool can produce one.

Read what comes out before you send it somewhere that matters.

Your content and your rights

You keep every right you had in the files you process here. We make no claim over your work and never see it in the first place.

In return, you are responsible for having the right to do what you are doing. Extracting audio from a film you do not own, converting a copyrighted document you were not licensed to alter, or processing somebody else’s personal data without a lawful basis are your decisions and your responsibility. These tools are built for your own files, your own recordings and material you are permitted to use.

Advertising on this site

This site is paid for by advertising, and being straight about that matters more to us than the revenue does.

We use Google AdSense and other advertising partners. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies allows it and its partners to show ads based on those visits. You can turn off personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a number of third party vendors at aboutads.info. The detail is set out in our privacy policy.

Two things worth stating plainly. Advertisements are selected and served by those networks, not by us, so their appearance is not an endorsement of any product or service in them. And no advertiser pays for a mention inside our articles or for a tool to be recommended. What we write about a tool is what we actually think of it.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to websites we do not control, including documentation, open source projects and reference material. Those links are provided because they are useful at the time of writing.

We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices of any external site. Following an external link means their terms and their privacy policy apply, not ours. Sites change, and a link that was sensible last year may not be today.

Availability and changes

Tools are added, updated and occasionally retired. Browsers change what they support, file formats move on, and a tool that worked perfectly last year may need rebuilding or removing.

We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we may change or withdraw any part of the site at any time without notice. If a tool you rely on matters to your work, keep a desktop alternative available.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, XY Convert and the people behind it accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of this site or the tools on it. That includes lost, corrupted or overwritten files, missed deadlines, rejected applications, business losses, and any decision taken on the basis of something published here.

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If something here is wrong

We would rather know. If a page contains a factual error, a tool behaves differently to how it is described, or a limitation is not stated where it should be, tell us and it will be looked at.

The most useful reports say which page, what you expected, and what happened instead. Please do not send us the file itself, since the whole point of the site is that your files stay with you. Describe it instead and that is nearly always enough. Write to us through the contact page.

Changes to this disclaimer

This page may be updated as the site grows or as the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the current version.

It should be read alongside our privacy policy and our terms of use, which together set out how the site works and what you can expect from it.

This page was last updated on 9 September 2026. If anything here is unclear, or you think something is out of date, let us know and it will be looked at.
